what is yoga?

Yoga is a Sanskrit word, meaning, “to yoke.” This refers to the union of mind, body and spirit. Through the physical practice of postures on the mat and living a yogic life off the mat, such a union can occur. A few ideas of living a yogic lifestyle include the observance of non-violence and truthfulness as well as the practice of contentment and self-discipline.

Is yoga a religion? No, yoga is not a religion. It is a spiritual practice that has been integrated into various religions throughout history. This, however, does not mean that your practice needs to be spiritual. At Cadence Yoga, we will guide you through the physical practice of yoga, while opening the doors for you to explore all aspects of yoga that speak to you.

why yoga?

There are numerous benefits to practicing yoga:

Increased flexibility, joint lubrication, muscle tone and balance
    Decreased stress levels
    Detoxification
    ...this is only the beginning

what to expect

Most of our classes are full-body workouts. You can expect to raise your heart rate, sweat and give your muscles a run for the money. We have cultivated a supportive atmosphere where you can practice on the mat and make great friends off the mat.

We do offer less strenuous classes as well. For a more in-depth look at each class, refer to class descriptions.

what to bring

Yoga mat - we have fabulous mats for sale in the studio if you need one. If you’re using your own mat, don’t neglect it; keep it as clean as behind your ears.

Water - stay hydrated by drinking water before, during and after class

Towel - if you like to wipe off sweat during class, feel free to bring a towel

class etiquette

It’s always best to plan on arriving 5-10 minutes before class begins. This ensures that the teacher can begin class on time while giving you a chance to sign in and settle in.

Please refrain from talking in the studio before, during, and after class. Feel free to have conversations in the lobby.

Plan on staying for the entire length of class. If you need to scoot out early, please let the teacher know before you enter the studio.

If you get overheated or lightheaded, please stay on your mat rather than leaving the studio.

All students must be 18 years of age or older.

what to wear

Comfortable shorts, capris, or pants coupled with a tank top or tee shirt are some good options.

No shoes are allowed in the studio. A barefooted practice is the best practice.

Deodorant is highly recommended. Men and women alike will most likely sweat profusely. Prepare yourself with a good hygiene practice.
